Lakewood sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of committing a series of sexual assaults in the area between September 2017 and December 2018, and they believe more victims may be out there.

Deanthony Govan has been in custody since deputies arrested him on Jan. 24 when he was walking into an apartment complex near Del Amo and Lakewood boulevards, authorities said. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy on patrol recognized Govan, who was wanted for numerous crimes, according to a news release.

Investigators believe Govan sexually assaulted five women between the ages of 19 and 39. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office charged him with 15 felony counts: four counts of false imprisonment, four counts of oral copulation, four counts of rape, two counts of robbery and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Govan was being held in lieu of $7 million bail and was expected in court Wednesday, authorities said.

Investigators urged anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau at 877-710-5273.
