A Long Beach man who allegedly broke into an elderly woman’s home and raped her was charged Wednesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced.

Emmanuel Stanley Reales, 40, was charged with three felony counts, including forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, and first-degree residential burglary, officials said.

Prosecutors assigned to the case said an 88-year-old woman woke up to find the sliding door open in her Harbor City home last Saturday, June 6, in the early morning.

Reales then attacked the woman and began to sexually assault her, Deputy District Attorney Lee Ashley Cernok said.

The woman was able to break free, run to a neighbor’s home and call police, who then canvassed the area but did not find him. Reales was arrested in connection with the attack two days later.

Officials said Reales previously served prison terms for assault with a deadly weapon in 2001 and receiving stolen property in 2007.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon at Los Angeles County Superior Court in Long Beach where prosecutors will ask that bail be set at $2.75 million.

If convicted, Reales faces a sentence of 112 years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
