The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges on Thursday against a 25-year-old Long Beach man suspected of robbing a taxi cab driver, authorities announced.

Burrell Andre Gaither is charged with one count of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Long Beach police were called to the 2300 block of East Anaheim Street at about 9:00PM on Thursday, March 24, in the city’s Eastside neighborhood, regarding an armed robbery.

According to the preliminary investigation, the cab driver, who was not injured, was driving in the area when the armed suspect entered the taxicab. After grabbing the driver’s wallet, keys to the taxi and cell phone, the suspect fled the scene.

During the investigation, detectives discovered and identified the suspect through the vehicle’s onboard video system, which had recorded the incident. On Tuesday, March 29, detectives arrested Gaither on the 1000 block of Raymond Avenue who was found in possession of a loaded firearm, an official release stated.

He is currently being held at the Long Beach City Jail where he is offered no bail because of a parole violation. He is expected to be arraigned Friday, April 1 at the Long Beach Superior Court, in Department 1.
