A Long Beach man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to life in state prison for driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into a motorcyclist who later died, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

George Edward Allison, 33, pleaded no contest to felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also admitted he was previously convicted of drinking under the influence of alcohol in Orange County in 2005, 2009 and 2013, officials stated.

Allison was immediately sentenced and placed into custody after his plea.

Prosecutors said the defendant was driving under the influence of alcohol on Tuesday, January 5, 2015 when he struck motorcyclist Jerry Frey on the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway in Cerritos.

“The collision launched Frey’s body about 100 feet and the victim landed on the freeway,” said Deputy District Attorney Andrea Mader, who prosecuted the case. “Good Samaritans went to the victim’s aid and Frey was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Allison was arrested in connection with the collision.”

Frey, 60, died from his injuries three weeks after the crash.

The case was investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
