A Long Beach woman pleaded no contest today to voluntary manslaughter for the March 2016 stabbing death of her boyfriend, who died after she took him to a hospital.

Yvonne Marie Pina, 34, also admitted a knife allegation stemming from the March 1, 2016, stabbing death of Aaron Flores, 21, at their residence in the 1800 block of East Hardwick Street.

Pina, who was initially charged with murder, is facing seven years in state prison. Sentencing is set for March 21 at the Long Beach courthouse.

Pina and Flores had been fighting for several days before his death, and fought again the day of the killing, according to Deputy District Attorney Kelly Kelley.

Flores unsuccessfully tried to leave in Pina’s car, then asked to use a neighbor’s phone, the prosecutor said.

Pina returned to her home and got a knife, then approached her boyfriend who was still outside with the neighbor and stabbed him once, Kelley said.

She was arrested that day by Long Beach police and has remained behind bars since then, according to jail records.
