An 18-year-old woman from Long Beach was shot to death in South Los Angeles in the early morning of the July 4 holiday, according to authorities.

A gunman, who walked up to a group of people in the 9100 block of South Western Avenue, opened fire around 1:30 a.m. and then got into a vehicle to flee, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman said.

The gunfire killed the woman, Demya Martin and also wounded a man, who was rushed to the hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, Eisenman said.
