Long Beach police early this morning arrested a man in Belmont Shore after he fled from police officers checking on a suspicious person call, authorities said.

Police were called to the parking lot in the 4000 block of East Olympic Plaza, near the Belmont Plaza Pool, about a suspicious person at 7:35 a.m., police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

They found a man and detained him, but when they found he had outstanding warrants for violation of a restraining order and driving under the influence, the man fled, according to De Prez.

Officers set up a perimeter and took 28-year-old Clifford Hancock, of Long Beach, into custody without incident, she said. He was booked on the warrants, resisting/obstructing a public officer and possession of a controlled substance.
