Long Beach police officers rescued two boys at a Long Beach motel Tuesday morning and arrested a man suspected of abducting them following a domestic violence incident with the children’s mother Monday afternoon in Oceanside, authorities said.

According to Oceanside Police Department (OPD) officials, police responded to the 500 block of Greenbrier Drive in Oceanside on Monday, July 27, to a report of a woman running down the street and hiding from her husband.

Authorities said the suspect, 29-year-old Daijon West, assaulted the victim, Amber Brittian, at their residence on the 2300 block of Greenbrier Drive.

Brittian managed to flee the home and hide behind parked vehicles from West, who tried following her.

Officials said West also threatened a Good Samaritan offering aid to Brittian, causing the person to drive away.

West then brandished a rifle at Brittian, who managed to run away again. He then drove away with his 9-year-old son and Brittian’s 10-year-old son at about 4:00PM, authorities stated.

Oceanside police tried to unsuccessfully convince West to return—at one point suggesting to West that he have a third party return the children, but he refused, said officials.

Oceanside police then acted on a tip and at 3:20AM Tuesday asked Long Beach officers to check for West’s vehicle at the 800 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

Long Beach police were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle in the parking of the Colonial Motel on PCH.

One child was located sleeping and uninjured in the vehicle while the other was eventually brought out of West’s room when the suspect surrendered peacefully following a phone call to his room.

The incident ended at about 4:30AM Tuesday in Long Beach officials said.

West has been taken to the OPD where he is expected to be booked at the Vista Detention Facility and is facing charges connected to felony spousal abuse, brandishing a firearm and felony child abuse.

Police said the incident stemmed from an argument over dirty laundry.
