Two people were injured during separate shootings in Long Beach on Wednesday including a boy and a man who were both hospitalized, according to authorities.

The first shooting was reported at 2:00PM in the 200 block of West 14th Street, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Sgt. Bradley Johnson.

The underage victim was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive, police said.

Responding officers also spotted a boy getting into a vehicle in the 1500 block of Pacific Avenue, Johnson said.

“The vehicle was followed by officers and stopped in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Locust Avenue,” Johnson said. “The suspect was subsequently taken into custody without incident, and a gun was recovered from inside the vehicle.”

The age of the suspect or victim was not immediately reported by police.

The second shooting happened in the area of 6th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, according to a preliminary investigation.

Arriving officers initially responded to the 500 block of East 4th Street at 9:10PM regarding a shooting victim and found a man struck in his upper body by gunfire.

He was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach paramedics and was listed in critical condition, according to LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.
