UPDATE | Authorities have identified a man found mortally wounded by gunfire on an apartment staircase in Long Beach.

Iran Francisco Maese, 35, was discovered by Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers when they responded to a shooting on the 700 block of Linden Avenue at about 11:30PM, Sunday, June 28. 

Maese did not have a last known address and was listed as a possible transient, Los Angeles County Coroner Chief Ed Winter said. 

He was declared dead at the scene at 11:53PM, despite life-saving measures conducted by police and paramedics.

06/29/15 9:44AM | A man was fatally shot in the East Village area of Long Beach Sunday night, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials said.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Linden Avenue at about 11:30PM Sunday, June 28, where they found the victim on an apartment staircase, struck in the upper body by gunfire, authorities said.

The victim was declared dead at the scene despite life-saving measures conducted by police and paramedics.

The coroner’s office will determine the identity of the victim and release it when next of kin have been notified.

No suspect information is available, a motive for the shooting is unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
