Police are investigating a shooting on Friday night that left a man wounded near the corner of West Anaheim Street and Pacific Avenue in the Washington neighborhood.

Officers arrived at the scene around 10:25 p.m. and found a man who had been shot in the upper torso, Detective Jennifer Arzola said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by paramedics with what initially appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. He later underwent surgery and is now listed in critical condition, said Arzola.

There was no suspect information or a known possible motive available. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Gang Enforcement Section at 562-570-7370.

It’s is the latest of three shootings this one week in the neighborhood, although police do not yet know if they are connected. On Jan. 22, a gunman shot at a car near 14th Street and Cedar Avenue with two women sitting in it, wounding one. The following night, three suspects shot and killed a man they had been fighting with outside the Packard building on Anaheim Street near Locust.
