UPDATE | A man fatally shot in the city’s Willmore neighborhood last Saturday was identified today as a 28-year-old Long Beach man.

The victim was Alberto Ruiz, coroner’s Assistant Ed Winter said.

The incident happened Saturday, July 22 at 2:31AM near 4th Street and Maine Avenue.

Police found Ruiz in the street with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting is being investigated as possibly gang-related.

PREVIOUSLY: Man Shot Dead in Possible Gang-Related Shooting in Long Beach

7/24/17 at 12:03PM | A man was fatally shot early Saturday morning in the city’s Willmore neighborhood, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police were called to the area of 4th Street and Maine Avenue at 2:31AM regarding reports of gunshots, according to an LBPD release.

Arriving officers found a man laying in the street with a gunshot wound to his upper torso, authorities stated. Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel determined him dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the incident which is being investigated as possibly gang-related.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
