A man was shot to death to in front of a North Long Beach apartment building Monday night. The shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Andy Street, which is just northwest of the intersection of Downey Avenue and South Street, according to authorities. Neighbors said they heard one shot and went outside to find a young man lying on the sidewalk. The small dead-end street is lined with apartment buildings, many of them with neighborhood watch and no-trespassing signs. Ben James, who lives in one of the apartments, said he knows just about everyone from the neighborhood but he didn't recognized the slain man. "He don't live over here for sure," James said. Tuesday morning, there were two candles near the curb, marking where the man died as neighbors went about their morning moving cars for street-sweeping. Police said the man had been shot in the upper body. There was no information available on a suspect or a possible motive, Long Beach Police Department Spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said. Homicide detectives were investigating.

A 21-year-old man was shot to death in front of a North Long Beach apartment building Monday night, according to authorities.

The shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Andy Street, which is just northwest of the intersection of Downey Avenue and South Street, according to authorities.

Neighbors said they heard one shot and went outside to find the man lying on the sidewalk. The small dead-end street is lined with apartment buildings, many of them with neighborhood-watch and no-trespassing signs.

James Ben, who lives in one of the apartments, said he knows just about everyone from the neighborhood but he didn’t recognized the slain man. “He don’t live over here for sure,” Ben said.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Jioni Kyles, a Long Beach resident.

Tuesday, there were two candles near the curb marking where he died. Neighbors went about their morning moving cars for street sweeping.

Police said the man had been shot in the upper body. The motive for the shooting was unknown, police said.

Homicide detectives were investigating.
