The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges Tuesday against the mother of a 10-month old Long Beach infant that was found in a motel room in full cardiac arrest last April and later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a call April 24, 2013 at the 600 block of W. Pacific Coast Highway where they found the infant in full arrest before transporting it to a local hospital. After an 11-month investigation and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office ruling out Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), the cause of death was determined to be the result of methadone ingestion. Methadone is a synthetic opiate which is used in medical settings to help treat patients with opiate addictions.

28-year-old Charissa Ranee Bailey of Long Beach, the mother of the deceased infant, was arrested Friday, March 21. After homicide detectives presented their case to the district attorney, a murder charge was filed against Bailey. Her arraignment is scheduled for April 9 in Long Beach Superior Court.
