UPDATE | Two men evaded police in Long Beach’s Westside Thursday afternoon despite the use of a helicopter, K-9 unit and SWAT officers, according to new information by the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

The search began when officers responded to a gang disturbance call on the 1800 block of Caspian Avenue at about noon on Thursday, January 7, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

According to officials, witnesses saw three men smoking marijuana in a vehicle.

Arriving officers encountered four men in a vehicle, two of whom fled on foot into the neighborhood, she said.

Police arrested one of the suspects who remained on scene due to a court order violation. The other remaining suspect was detained, questioned and released, according to the LBPD.

Officers established a perimeter from 19th to 20th streets and Caspian to Canal avenues in an attempt to find the two remaining suspects.

During the search, some residents were evacuated and a “Fox” police helicopter, a K-9 Detail and SWAT officers were called for assistance.

Police made several announcements over its PA system for the suspects to surrender.

Officers also searched several yards and a residence where one of the suspects had possibly entered.

Officers ended the search at 2:15PM without locating the suspects, one of which authorities said is on parole and wanted for a court order violation.
