A Long Beach man was fatally struck in North Long Beach Wednesday night by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene, authorities said Thursday.

According to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona, officers were dispatched to the 6400 block of Paramount Boulevard at 9:07PM where they determined a hit-and-run involving a male pedestrian and female driving a 2012 Lexus CT200H had occurred.

Arriving officers began providing first aid to the man who sustained major trauma. Officials said Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.

Authorities believe the pedestrian—described as a 30-year-old Long Beach resident—was on the road, outside the confines of a crosswalk, when he was struck by the car. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Paramount Boulevard.

The driver, described as a 37-year-old Long Beach woman, called police to report she was in a hit-and-run 20 minutes earlier, officials said.

The identification of the victim was withheld pending notification of kin.

No witnesses have come forward and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to call Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective Dave Whelan at 562.570.7355.
