A person suspected of stealing alcohol from a downtown store Thursday afternoon was able to evade police during their search, authorities said.

Police were called to a business near 6th Street and Pine Avenue at 12:20PM on Thursday, Aug. 18, regarding a robbery that had just happened, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Sgt. Brad Johnson.

The suspect allegedly stole a bottle of liquor from the local business and, when confronted by an employee, the suspect brandished a firearm, Johnson said.

Authorities believed the suspect may have been in a nearby parking structure, thereby establishing a containment.

“It was later determined that the suspect was not within the containment,” he said. “No arrest [was] made.”

The incident remains under investigation.
