UPDATE | The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) arrested two suspects in connection to the September 13 murder of Compton resident Allen Pena, the department announced today.

According to a release issued this afternoon, authorities said they arrested Michael Coronado, 24, of Long Beach and David Rios, 23, of Compton on September 22. On September 24, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office charged both suspects with the murder of Allen Pena.

Police stated that Coronado was also charged with attempted murder in an unrelated shooting that occurred on September 7 in North Long Beach. Both individuals are being held in Los Angeles County jail — Coronado for $4 million bail and Rios for $2 million bail.

Detectives are investigating the shooting as possibly gang-related, authorities said.

PREVIOUSLY: Coroner’s Office Identifies Victim in Sunday Morning Fatal Shooting

09/14/15 at 3:20PM | Authorities have released the identity of the victim of a fatal shooting that happened in North Long Beach Sunday morning. 

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said Allen Pena, a 22-year-old Compton man, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Pena was found in an alley on the 300 block of East 67th Street on Sunday, September 13, according to Long Beach officials.

PREVIOUSLY: Police Investigating Sunday Murder in North Long Beach

9/14/15 at 9:44AM | Police are investigating the shooting death of a young man that happened over the weekend in North Long Beach, authorities said.

Officers responded to the 300 block of East 67th Street at 9:37AM on Sunday, September 13, to assist Long Beach paramedics with the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives and an investigator from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office determined the victim—who was found in an alley—suffered gunshot injuries.

Authorities are withholding the identity of the victim until next of kin have been notified.

The motive for the crime is unknown, according to officials.
