UPDATE | An armed robbery suspect who holed himself inside a Long Beach residence during an hours-long police standoff yesterday was booked into Long Beach City Jail without bail, authorities said.

TImothy Demond Holden, a 40-year-old Harbor City man, was booked for robbery, residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, having an outstanding parole warrant and violating his parole conditions, said Marlene Arrona, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Holden allegedly robbed a store in downtown Long Beach Monday morning before fleeing on foot to a residence less than half a mile away. He barricaded himself inside a home until police and SWAT officers used a flash bang device to enter and arrest him.

10/17/16 at 2:32PM | An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody Monday afternoon after an hours-long standoff with police near downtown Long Beach.

Officials said the incident began just before 9:00AM on Monday, October 17 when police were called to a business on the 600 block of Pine Avenue regarding a strong armed robbery, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

The man, allegedly armed with a knife, fled on foot and barricaded himself at an unoccupied residence less than half a mile north from the business, near Locust Avenue and 9th Street—where a woman and her young daughter were gunned down in August. SWAT officers were then brought in.

Authorities tried negotiating with the suspect—who remained holed up at the home near Locust Avenue and East Nardo Court—before eventually deploying a flash bang device, which produced a blinding flash of light and a loud bang, meant to temporarily disorient a person’s senses according to officials.

Officials then entered the building and took the suspect into custody.

No injuries were reported. Authorities did not say if a weapon was found.

10/17/16 at 11:04AM | Authorities were looking for a robbery suspect Monday morning who they believed to be hidden near a downtown Long Beach building and armed with a knife, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Officers were originally called regarding a report of a strong arm robbery at a business on the 600 block of Pine Avenue at 8:49AM on Monday, October 17, LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said.

“While en route, officers learned the male suspect was armed with a knife and fled on foot,” she said. “Arriving officers observed the suspect enter a building.”

SWAT personnel are currently on scene to assist with the investigation, Arrona said.

Locust Avenue, between 9th and 10th Street, remains closed as the investigation continues.
