A man is in critical condition after being shot in West Long Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

Long Beach Police Department officers responded to the scene on the 2900 block of Santa Fe Avenue at about 1:35PM and learned a male victim had been transported to a local hospital by an unknown person, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona. Additional officers then went to the hospital the man was transported to, where he is being listed as being in critical condition.

Police learned the victim was standing near Santa Fe Avenue and Canton Street when he was shot by a suspect from across the street, Arrona said. The suspect then fled the scene and officers are still searching for him.

The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related, Arrona said.
