11/21/14 11:14AM | Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers shot and killed a male suspect this morning in the Wrigley neighborhood, marking the sixth officer-involved shooting this year.
Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue around 8:10AM regarding an “assist the citizen” call involving a runaway female juvenile, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.
During the course of the investigation, an officer-involved shooting occurred between police and a male suspect, who police said pulled out a knife during a verbal argument and who the juvenile had a restraining order against for domestic violence.
“Fearing for the safety of the parties, the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect,” the LBPD said in a statement.
No officers were injured and Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel responded, later pronouncing the male suspect dead inside a residence.
The juvenile is safe and being interviewed, Arrona said, adding that a knife was recovered at the scene.
LBPD homicide detectives are on the scene and the investigation is ongoing. We will update this story as we learn more.
