Authorities are searching for a suspect who allegedly fatally struck a Long Beach man with a vehicle following a fist fight in Compton Monday night.

Frankie Mazen III, who was identified by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department yesterday, is wanted for questioning.

The incident was reported to police at 10:56PM on Monday, July 24 near East Cypress Street and South Crane Avenue in Compton.

The victim, 30-year-old Mario Melbourne Jr., was working a security job at that location when Mazen III, 44, drove up to the place, exited his car and began arguing with Melbourne Jr., friends who were there visiting the victim told NBC4.

The argument then led to a fist fight between the two before Mazen III got back into his car, drove away and then made a U-turn, returning to the location and hitting Melbourne Jr. with his car, according to LASD officials.

Mazen III then fled the scene eastbound on Cypress Street. Melbourne Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the suspect’s vehicle, a gray BMW, was recovered a short distance away.
