A woman was shot late Monday night in the Rose Park area, and police later called in SWAT and set up a perimeter around a home nearby in an unsuccessful search for the shooter, authorities said.

Long Beach police said in a statement Tuesday morning that the unidentified woman was shot in the lower body at about 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Obispo Avenue. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers began searching in the 1000 block of Stanley Avenue after a person matching the description of the shooter was seen in the area, Officer Carlos Sandoval, a spokesman for the department, said in a statement.

Patrol units set up a perimeter, and called in a SWAT team. At about 8 a.m. Tuesday, SWAT completed its search and the suspected shooter was not located, Sandoval said.

Police said the woman knew the shooter. Police said officers are assisting domestic violence detectives in searching the residence where the shooting occurred for evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
