Though a cause of death is still unknown pending an autopsy, two men were arrested in connection with the alleged homicide of a man in his Carmelitos home.

Following a call that indicated a battery might have ocurred, Long Beach Police (LBPD) officers arrived to the 700 block of Via Wanda late Tuesday evening to discover 41-year-old Albert Carl III unresponsive on the floor of his home. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, two suspects forced their way into the Carl’s home, carrying a stick and a shotgun. Once inside the home, the suspects–who apparently knew Carl–became involved in a physical altercation with Carl that ultimately resulted in him becoming unresponsive. Two men–23-year-old Shawn Halloran II and 36-year-old Marcus Word of Long Beach–were arrested the following day on suspicion of murdering Carl.

There were no obvious signs of trauma on the victim, however paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived to find him not breathing and unconscious.

Specific charges have not been filed against Halloran and Word. The Los Angeles County District Attorney will review the case to determine charges.
