Deputy City Manager Arturo Sanchez announced this week that he will resign from the City of Long Beach to accept a position as assistant city manager with the City of Sacramento, according to city officials.

“I want to thank City Manager Patrick H. West, the Mayor, and the City Council for having afforded me the privilege and honor of serving them and the residents of Long Beach,” stated Sanchez. “While my tenure has been short it has been filled with enumerable memories and lessons that will influence and guide me in my professional career. I have worked alongside some excellent colleagues and amazing individuals during the past 22 months.”

Sanchez plays a number of roles, handling special projects, communications, government affairs and the Citizen’s Police Complaint Commission. He also serves as the city’s chief liaison to the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, according to officials.

“Arturo’s dedication and leadership have been instrumental to the City of Long Beach in several areas,” said West in a statement. “He has done a great job of reaching out and collaborating with the community and other stakeholders, and he will be missed.”

Sanchez earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and his Juris Doctor from New College of California, School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in California and is a member of the International City/County Management Association, according to city officials. Sanchez started working for the City of Long Beach in February of last year.

Sanchez’s last day with the city will be Friday, January 6, 2017.
