The marine bureau of the Long Beach Fire Department recovered a four-door pickup truck that slipped into the marina off the Davies Harbor Launch Ramp Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The truck was nearly fully submerged about 25 yards from the ramp at about 3 p.m., Marine Chief Gonzolo Medina said.

He said it’s not an uncommon occurrence at the city’s five boat launches for a vehicle to slip in while the users try to get their boats back onto their trailers.

“It’s not unusual for the whole truck to slip into the water,” Medina said.

He said that depending on the tide level, the drop off of the ramp can happen quicker than the driver realizes and the entire vehicle can be quickly submerged.

First responders will first get the vehicle cleared of any drivers and passengers, then send rescue divers to attach chains to the vehicle and tow it out with a tow truck, Medina said. They try to get the vehicles out as quickly as possible to avoid polluting the water.

No one was injured in the incident and the marine bureau was able to get the truck out of the water.
