This Friday the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in the city’s South Division between 6:00PM and 2:00AM.

The checkpoint operation is part of the LBPD Traffic Section’s continued effort to reduce DUI-related incidents. DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, according to the release.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, as well as checking for proper licensing.

Drivers are encouraged to use the California Office of Traffic Safety Designated Driver VIP (DDVIP) mobile app, which gives users the ability to locate establishments offering incentives for driving sober. It also includes a tab for ordering rides from Uber, Lyft and Curb.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Long Beach Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1’.
