An elderly man—who had been missing since August 31 when he walked away from his North Long Beach home—was located yesterday and is in good health. Jose Salazar, 82, was brought to Long Beach Fire Department’s Downtown station at 2:40PM Tuesday by a woman who he had apparently met during his absense.

“We responded and confirmed that the individual was in fact Jose Salazar and learned that he had been brought to that location by a woman he had befriended,” said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.

The woman, whose identity was not given, told police that Salazar had been staying with her at her home in Carson and that she had been attempting to seek services for him from Adult Protective Services. Upon learning that he was missing and being searched for by police, the woman drove him to the fire station.

Salazar was last seen in Signal Hill on Friday afternoon. He is now back home with his family.
