The woman killed in a three-way car accident yesterday afternoon has been identified as 70-year-old Kwang Ja Sohn of Seal Beach.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) said in a statement today that the preliminary investigation found that a 2002 Honda, driven by a 30-year-old Long Beach resident, and a 1990 Nissan, driven by a 20-year-old Long Beach resident, were traveling south on Cherry Ave. from Wardlow St. The Honda collided with a 2009 Toyota, driven by a 78-year-old resident of Seal Beach with Sohn as his passenger, that was making a left turn from northbound Cherry Ave. to westbound 33rd St.
Following that collision, the Nissan collided with the Honda, leading the Honda to crash into a parked unoccupied ATV type vehicle in a parking lot on the southwest corner of Cherry Ave. and 33rd St.
Sohn had to be extricated out of the vehicle and was transported by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel with serious injuries to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries, police said.
All drivers were released and the investigation remains ongoing.
