It looks like the 54th State Assembly race for termed-out Betty Karnette’s seat is heating up. Councilmember Tonia Reyes-Uranga is hosting a fundraiser at Phil Trani’s on Monday, February 26th.

This race could get pretty intense on the Democratic side with Reyes-Uranga going up against Councilman Patrick O’Donnell in a primary. Both Reyes-Uranga and O’Donnell may have to take on another big name in the Dem primary…..Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn. This should make for an interesting primary….and there will certainly be others.

On the Republican side, Michael A. Jackson, a local Long Beach resident and satellite project manager has publicly expressed interest in the seat. He has run in the past against Karnette and lost. It is expected that there will be intense interest on the Republican side since it is an open seat.

I’ve included a link to the Reyes-Uranga flyer below…I will also try my best to keep you informed of all the latest 2008 political maneuvering.
