Floating body found in Alamitos Bay early Sunday

The body of a man was found floating in Alamitos Bay early Sunday, authorities said.

Police responded to the scene at 1:22 a.m. on Second Street and Bay Shore Avenue, said Long Beach police Lt. James Richardson.

The coroner’s office, which also responded to the incident, will determine the cause of death, Richardson said.

The man appeared to be in his 70s, according to a coroner’s official. An autopsy was scheduled to determine how he died.

His identity hasn’t been publicly released, pending notification of his next of kin.
