Whether you feel like getting some culture, engaging in the city’s budget process or getting rid of old electronics and clothes, there’s something for everyone going on this weekend in Long Beach.

Saturday, August 12

  • 2nd District Community Budget Meeting – Find out what is being funded for next fiscal year’s city budget. Hosted by Councilwoman Jeannine Pearce, this event will take place at Grace United Methodist Church from 10:00AM to noon. For more information call (562) 570-2222.
  • Heart of Long Beach Health Fair – United Cambodian Community, Khmer Parent Association, The Cambodian Family, and Families in Good Health present a health fair where more than 20 community organizations will provide resources and information. There will also be free workshops on healthy relationships, senior benefits, and health screenings. The event takes place on Dawson Avenue next to the United Cambodian Community headquarters, 2201 East Anaheim Street from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. For more information call (562) 433-2490.
  • E-Waste Collection and Clothing Drive – The Long Beach Development Services Neighborhood Leadership Program Class of 2017 wants you to get rid of old computers, televisions, printers, microwaves, phones and more during this disposal event. Batteries, paint and light bulbs CANNOT be donated. Gently used clothing will also be accepted and will eventually head to DARE to CARE, a North Long Beach based homeless organization.   • Iowa by the Sea Picnic – The Iowa Association of Long Beach (IALB) will be holding their annual event in front of the historic Battleship IOWA, 10:00AM to 3:00PM. Tickets are $35 for adults, $12 for youth ages 6-12 and free for those ages 5 and younger. Click here for more information.

  • Lun*na Menoh: A Ring Around the Collar – Get a last glimpse of Lun*na Menoh’s work at the Art Exchange, in partnership with the Long Beach Museum of Art. The Japanese-born performance artist presents multi-layered works “exposing the invisible threads and interconnections between the visual arts, performance, and Haute Couture.” 356 E. 3rd Street.   • Heart of Long Beach – Community members will have the chance to see eight murals up close during the HEART of Long Beach festival from 3:00PM to 8:00PM, where walking, bicycle and bus tours will be offered from the Mark Twain Neighborhood Library, located at 1401 East Anaheim Street. The murals are part of the Cambodia Town Mural Project. Click here for more information.
