Harbor Regional Center closed its offices in Long Beach and Torrance on Friday due to threats posted on social media.

The situation was deemed a non-viable threat, according to a message to the center’s clientele from Executive Director Patrick Ruppe. But out of an “abundance of caution,” Ruppe said staff will continue to work remotely but offices will remained closed.

The Torrance and Long Beach police departments were working to investigate the online threats, the message said.

Long Beach police could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday morning.

Harbor Regional provides an array of state-funded services to adults and children with developmental disabilities.

More information about the status of reopening would be released Monday, Ruppe said in the message.
