Join in the fun this Saturday during the Healthy Active Long Beach 4th Annual Fruit and Veggie Party, where you can learn about health and nutrition as well as sample healthy recipes made with seasonal fruits and vegetables. The event will be held at the Health Department’s Central Facilities Center at Martin Luther King Jr. Park from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.

“Long Beach is a better city when everybody is healthy, especially our children and families,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “The Healthy Active Long Beach Fruit and Veggie Party is a great way to learn about the resources Long Beach offers to help keep our community healthy.”

Not only can attendees learn about the free and low-cost services available to help them live a healthy lifestyle, but physical activities will be provided, as well, including skateboarding, zumba, yoga, a walking workshop and seed planting. The Long Beach Peace Garden will also be open to tour.

A free bike valet, courtesy of Pedal Movement, will be provided for residents who wish to ride to the party. Attendees can also contribute to the city’s Bicycle Master Plan Update by providing their input.

“Exposing people to a healthy, active lifestyle at an early age helps people live fuller, richer lives, and that’s important to all of us,” stated Councilmember Dee Andrews.

This 4th Annual Fruit and Veggie Party also celebrates Healthy Active Long Beach’s 13th year and marks the conclusion of its Power Up Your Summer campaign, which seeks to encourage children and their families to get at least one hour of active play each day, and to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables during the summer break, when kids are more susceptible to weight gain.

Sponsored by the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Healthy Active Long Beach Project, the free event will bring together partners from different city departments as well as other community programs.
