MemorialCare, following its purchase of certain assets last year from Long Beach’s Universal Care, has announced the fruition of that purchase with its Seaside Health Plan, which opened September 1 at 2840 Long Beach Boulevard.

The nonprofit plan-to-plan model—which will serve those enrolled in Medicare, Medi-Cal, Dual Eligibles, Commercial health plans, as well as those involved in the California Children Services (CCS) demonstration project—has a goal of “providing access to quality health care and the region’s top hospitals” according to Seaside.

Those enrolled in Seaside will now have access to primary care physicians throughout the area, including Miller Children’s Hospital, Long Beach Memorial, and Community Hospital.

SeasideBann“The new health plan and other capabilities further our role in population health management, medical homes, accountable care, information technology, best-practice medicine and other health care reform elements,” said MemorialCare Health System president and CEO Barry Arbuckle, Ph.D., in a press release. “They expand our ability to partner more directly with health plans, employers, hospitals, physicians and providers to better serve patients and local communities.”

Plans of expansion are to follow as Seaside hopes to tap into the Orange County market while also eventually partaking in the Covered California health exchange, an initiative set forth to increase the number of insured Californians.

The plan is named after Long Beachg’s first hospital, which opened in 1907 and is now Long  Beach Memorial.
