Tonight, the City Council is expected to not schedule the Hotel Labor Peace ordinance for the February 2008 ballot. In other words, the Hotel Labor Peace might be a non-issue sooner than expected. One Councilmember has concerns with the way the ordinance is written saying it is confusing to voters. According to another councilmember, the reason for the twist in fate is because of the San Francisco union who introduced the ordinance is backing off…they have “bigger fish to fry.”

The latest message from Hotel Alliance spokesperson Mike Murchison:

We appreciate the support that we have received from the entire business community including the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce. Councilmembers Gary DeLong, Rae Gabelich, and Val Lerch have supported us from day one. We hope in the future, council members will reach out and communicate with successful industries in Long Beach before they introduce legislation that potentially impacts those industries.
