Long Beach residents will be able to donate and recycle unwanted household items this Saturday at Big Saver Foods, as part of Donation & Recycle Day, city officials announced.

The public will be able to drop off the following items:

• Large appliances such as refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers
• Bulk items such as chairs, sofas and mattresses
• Gently used clothing, accessories and other items normally donated to Goodwill stores
• Household batteries (but not vehicle or industrial batteries)
• and eWaste items such as computers, monitors, keyboards, televisions, remote control toys, DVD players, fax machines, printers, digital clocks and cameras.

Donated cell phones will be given to the Interval House Crisis Center to help battered spouses and children transition out of abusive homes, according to a press release.

The annual event is co-hosted by Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal and Goodwill SOLAC to help provide individuals with training and tools for employment.

The Environmental Services Bureau will accept bulk items and appliances and free on-site shredding services will be offered.

Industrial eWaste, household hazardous waste or fluorescent tubes will not be accepted.

The event will be held Saturday, June 20, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM at Big Saver Foods, 659 Junipero Avenue, on the east side of the parking lot.
