Two of the eight major-leaguers in last night’s Home Run Derby had ties to Long Beach: Poly’s Chase Utley (Philadelphia Phillies) and Dirtbag Evan Longoria (Tampa Bay Rays).  Combined, they totaled eight homers.

That’s not good.

But it was still fun, and the boys of the LBPOSTSports.com Sports Night podcast reflect on the derby in this hilarious, free-wheeling episode that also catches you up on Long Beach athletes in the Olympics and the best in local sports.

With this beautiful weather out, it’s a perfect time for a round of golf at one of Long Beach’s many courses.  If you’re Mayor Bob Foster, it’s time for a nice, long walk.  We follow him around a few holes of the Mayor’s Cup tournament at Skylinks, and let you know what it’s like to watch an injured mayor refuse to stop playing his round.

What’s that, Dodger fans?  Why yes, 57 wins by the All-Star Break is pretty impressive.  Angels nut Evan Lamont tells us more about Anaheim’s record-setting first half of the season thus far.

To top it all off, we bring you a blow-by-blow account of the Total Fighting Alliance event that nearly filled up the Pyramid.  Mixed martial arts columnist Glendon Hardin brings the best fighting in Long Beach to light, and concludes that locally-based TFA is here to stay.

See you at the game!
