1083Working Together For Community Safety, Peace and Justice, the theme of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s January luncheon, to be held at Parker’s Lighthouse on Tuesday, January 12, will feature the Executive Director at The California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ) Wende Nichols-Julien, J.D. speaking on how the organization approaches community safety, peace and justice. The CCEJ is a human relations organization focused on confronting bias, bigotry and racism through education, conflict resolution and advocacy, stated the release.

“We are fortunate to have such a prominent speaker as Nichols-Julien with us for this program as the topic is both timely and critically sensitive in our community and across the nation,” stated Randy Gordon, president and CEO of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “The California Conference for Equality and Justice understands the delicate nature of balancing the needs of many varied organizations and grassroots groups.”

Established in 1963 as the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the organization became independent and was declared the California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ) in 2005. The organization serves 5,000 people each year through its conflict resolution and education programs held within communities and schools, according to the release.

CCEJ’s programs include “Conflict Resolution,” “Building Bridges Youth Programs,” “Community Anti-Bias,” “Leadership Education Programs” and “Interfaith Programs.” CCEJ’s youth programs give its participants a safe place to learn and discuss culture, communication and conflict so young people can learn the skills they need to not only succeed, but lead and share those skills with others. One recent CCEJ graduate stated that the program teaches students that “a conversation resolves a conflict better than a gun,” according to the release.

The Good Afternoon Long Beach monthly luncheon series offers networking from 11:30AM to noon, a featured speaker from noon to 12:45PM and the program conclusion at 12:50PM.
