Police arrested a Long Beach man who fled after allegedly drunk driving and crashing his vehicle into the Colorado Lagoon early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded to a single vehicle collision near 4th Street and Haines Avenue at 2:23AM on Wednesday, June 15, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

She said the vehicle eventually came to rest in the middle of the Colorado Lagoon.

The driver, 30-year-old Raymond Aaron Schultz, and his female passenger fled the scene but were detained in the nearby area, according to Arrona.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel transported them to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. The vehicle was removed from the lagoon by members of the Police Dive Team, Arrona said.

Schultz was booked for driving under the influence and injury hit-and-run and is currently being held in Long Beach City Jail. His bail is set at $100,000.
