A 20-year-old Long Beach motorcyclist was killed when he ran a red light and collided with a motorist attempting to make a left turn Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 4:55PM at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Lemon Avenue on Wednesday, August 10, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Arriving officers found Dominique Rivera lying unconscious on the northwest corner of the intersection, officials said. He was treated by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 27-year-old Long Beach woman was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius east on Pacific Coast Highway, while Rivera was riding a 2015 Yamaha west on PCH.

When the female motorist arrived at the intersection she waited until the traffic light turned red to make a left turn to head north on Lemon Avenue.

“As the light turned red, she attempted to complete her left turn, when she was struck by the motorcyclist who had entered the intersection on a red light,” the release stated.

Authorities said Rivera had a valid driver’s license but did not have a motorcycle endorsement.

The female driver, who also had a valid driver’s license, remained at the scene, officials stated. She had unspecified injuries.
