Irvine police released this most recent photo of Dorner, taken January 28 at an Orange County motel.

Thanks to contributions from more than two dozen local governments, police departments, individuals and busineses, a $1 million reward is now on the table for information leading to the arrest and conviction of fugitive ex-cop and Navy veteran Christopher Dorner who has been on the run since he began a murderous revenge-sparked rampage last Sunday.

Donors to the reward fund included the Long Beach Police Officers Association as well as police officers associations in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego and Irvine and numerous Los Angeles entities from the Dodgers baseball team to USC President C.L. Max Nikias. The $1 million bounty is thought to be the largest of its kind ever offered locally.

“[Obtaining the money for the reward] was amazingly, amazingly easy,” Beck said at a Sunday afternoon press conference according to the L.A. Times. “When we reached out to members of this community, they gave immediately.”

Beck said that all of the donations were gathered within 24 hours of his wife’s idea to compile money for a massive reward for Dorner, who is accused of killing three people and injuring others as he acted out harsh threats outlined in a manifesto allegedly posted by Dorner online.

The massive manhunt for Dorner began last Wednesday night, shortly after he was announced as the main suspect in last Sunday’s killing of former CSULB student Monica Quan and her fiance Keith Lawrence in Irvine. After a failed attempt to steal a boat in San Diego and flee to Mexico, Dorner drove through the Inland Empire and between 1AM and 2AM Thursday morning, he is suspected of ambushing and killing a Riverside patrol officer and wounding several other law enforcement officials in Corona.

The last confirmed sighting of Dorner was Thursday morning right around the time his Nissan Titan was found burned in a forested area near Big Bear.

“This is not about capturing a fleeing suspect, but about preventing another crime — likely another murder.”
