A man in his 50s was taken to a Long Beach hospital in moderate condition Tuesday night, after he was struck by a Metro Blue Line train, authorities said.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputies responded to Eighth Street and Long Beach Boulevard on Tuesday, November 3, at 9:40PM, according to LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

A Blue Line train going southbound toward Long Beach reportedly made contact with the trespasser in that area, resulting in the blocking of tracks for a short time, Metro Communications Manager Jose Ubaldo said.

According to Ubaldo, the victim was sent to St. Mary Medical Center. Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Brian Fisk said he was transported in moderate condition to the trauma hospital.

None of the 12 passengers aboard the train were injured.

Metro and Long Beach Transit buses were made available to shuttle passengers from the Anaheim Street Station to the fifth Street Station until the incident cleared at 11:52PM, Ubaldo added.
