A portion of Pine Avenue from First Street to Ocean Boulevard in Downtown Long Beach will continue to experience closures for the next two days as construction crews finish making emergency repairs prompted by a misaligned sewer line.

Lauren Howland, a spokesperson for Long Beach Utilities, said the main sewer line in the area was discovered to be misaligned during the city’s routine yearly inspection.

During the inspection, crews used a camera to view the sewer lines, which alerted them to the issue, Howland said.

Because the issue was in a main sewer line underneath a high-traffic area, and it could cause a bigger issue underneath the roadway in the future, Howland said her department requested emergency contractors to make repairs as soon as possible.

The repairs began Monday, and crews have since completed the work underground, Howland said, adding that now they’re repaving the area, but all construction should wrap up Thursday.
