In honor of the man who led west coast dockworkers in a 1934 strike that led to the creation of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, City Council Dee Andrews, Congresswoman Laura Richardson and others will host a pancake breakfast this Sunday to celebrate “Harry Bridges Day.”

The event is free and will be at McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Ave., from 7:00am-10:00am.

The work done by Bridges in the early 30s resulted in union recognition and increased rights and benefits for dockworkers.  The 1934 strike won a single contract for all longshoremen in California, Oregon and Washington.  Bridges also ran the ILWU for four decades.

No word yet on how good Councilman Andrews is with a spatula.
