UPDATE | The 59-year-old male pedestrian killed in Saturday’s collision at Cherry Avenue and 19th Street was reportedly crossing westbound on Cherry when he was hit by a Jeep, the Long Beach Police stated in a release issued Monday morning.
According to the LBPD, a Jeep Patriot, driven by a 19-year-old Long Beach woman, was traveling southbound on Cherry Avenue in the number two lane. The woman reportedly saw a vehicle in front of her suddenly swerve into the number one lane, which made her unable to swerve out of the way of the pedestrian, who was crossing the street at that time. The driver then hit the pedestrian, around 8:26PM.
Police stated the female driver attempted to swerve into the number one lane after she hit the pedestrian, sideswiping a 2012 Honda Civic, driven by a 23-year-old male resident of Long Beach shortly after. Both drivers were unharmed.
Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the 59-year-old victim in the street, unconscious with injuries. The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) arrived and also determined the pedestrian deceased. The victim’s name is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin, according to the LBPD.
The Honda Civic sustained minor damage and the Jeep sustained major front end damage.

PREVIOUSLY: Pedestrian Dies in Crash at Cherry Avenue and PCH in Long Beach
At 11:24PM | One man died Saturday evening at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Long Beach after he was hit by a car, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
The LBPD said the collision occurred at 8:27PM. The victim, whose name remains withheld as of Monday morning, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver stayed at the scene, and Cherry Avenue was promptly closed between PCH and Hill Street for the investigation, the police said.
