A man was admitted to a local hospital Friday night after attempting suicide by stabbing himself in the throat and jumping out of a window, police said.

Released information about this incident was minimal since this was a private medical emergency, said Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Sgt. Megan Zabel.

“We don’t release a lot of details on suicide calls,” she said.

She said officers arrived to the scene on the 900 block of East Third Street at about 3:30PM, where a 57-year-old man had attempted to kill himself by stabbing his own throat. Officers tried to assist the man, but he jumped out of a window.

The man was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition, Zabel said.

“The officers did what they could to help him,” she said.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are currently available. We will update this story as we learn more.
