UPDATE | Authorities have identified a motorcyclist killed this morning when he collided with the driver of a semi-truck near Long Beach Airport.

Jose Perez, 27, of South Gate was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the driver of a semi-truck with an attached trailer, a 33-year-old Compton man, had stopped at a driveway on the 3400 block of Lakewood Boulevard waiting to enter the airport to make a delivery.

“The motorcyclist was traveling southbound Lakewood Boulevard at a high rate of speed,” Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) said in a statement. “The motorcyclist moved from the number 3 lane into the number 4 lane and collided with the truck waiting to enter the airport.”

4/12/17 at 10:11AM | A motorcyclist was killed this morning when he rear-ended a semi-truck near the Long Beach Airport, authorities said.

The crash happened on Lakewood Boulevard near Conant Street at about 7:50AM.

crashThe motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Lakewood Boulevard, south of Conant Avenue, when he struck the rear of the semi-truck, according to Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

The victim, only identified as a man, sustained serious injuries and was determined dead at the scene by Long Beach paramedics, Pratt said.

The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene.

Detectives with LBPD’s Collision Investigation Detail were at the scene this morning.
