UPDATE | Police today said an 80-year-old man who went missing was found safe in Belmont Shore last night.

Edward Merrill Dephoure, who has medical conditions that can cause him to become disoriented, was reported missing Tuesday afternoon after leaving a Bixby Knolls care facility, according to police.

After police asked for help finding him, someone spotted Dephoure around 7:20 Wednesday night in the Belmont Shore area, according to authorities.

“He was found unharmed and was transported to his residence,” police said.

March 7, 8:35 a.m. | Police are asking for help in finding an 80-year-old man with medical conditions who was last spotted Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Edward Merrill Dephoure is described as a white man weighing 120 pounds and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a gray sweater, jeans and gray tennis shoes. He has brown eyes and gray hair.

Authorities said he suffers from medical conditions and may become disoriented. He is also known to use public transportation on his own.

Dephoure was sighted in Los Angeles about two hours after staff at a Bixby Knolls care facility near Lemon Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard last saw him around noon.

“The care facility received a call from an unknown calling party who stated he was with Dephoure in the City of Los Angeles, but was unable to stay with Dephoure,” the Long Beach Police Department said in a release.

Facility staff then reported Dephoure missing to LBPD.
