Possible Gang Shootout Leaves Man Injured in One of Two Reported Long Beach Shootings Over the Weekend

Two shootings were reported in North Long Beach over the weekend, including one possible gang-related shootout that left a man injured, authorities said.

Saturday, May 21

Police were called to the 900 block of East Artesia Boulevard at 6:09PM regarding a shots heard call, said Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Arriving officers found evidence of a shooting but no injured parties at the scene, she said. Shortly after officers spotted a subject matching the description of an involved party, near 67th Street and Gaviota Avenue.

Officers established a containment perimeter to find the male suspect but the search ended with negative results, according to Arrona.

“The preliminary investigation indicates two males exchanged gunfire in the 900 block of East Artesia Boulevard and fled before officers arrived,” Arrona said. “One, an injured male adult, was located at a local hospital.”

The victim’s condition is unknown at this time, she said. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
